COVID 19: Access Bus in Leeds helping out

Access Bus – our dial-a-ride style service in Leeds – is changing its role during the pandemic.  Rather than taking vulnerable people out and about, we’ll be taking emergency food parcels to vulnerable people.

CT Plus Yorkshire has been operating the Access Bus has service in Leeds for over a decade, helping older and disabled people to get out and about.  During the current lockdown, Access Bus passengers are following Government advice and making essential journeys only.  This means services are very quiet, freeing up vehicles and drivers to help people in other ways.

From Monday 30 March, we’ll be using Access Buses and drivers to run a delivery service of emergency food parcels to vulnerable people on behalf of Moor Allerton Elderly Care.  Leeds Metro, who fund the Access Bus, are fully behind the move.

David Longmate, Operations Manager at CT Plus, said “With vehicles and drivers potentially idle, yet a real need out in the community, this is an obvious step to take – instead of taking vulnerable people to things, take things to vulnerable people.  I’m delighted that Metro are supporting us to team up with Moor Allerton Elderly Care. We think it could make a real difference.”

We will still be providing an Access Bus service for those passengers who need to use the service for essential travel.
